Tractor Troubleshooting Guide
Regular maintenance of your tractor minimizes potential problems, and it helps in extending the life of your machine. However, you might sometimes experience issues that need to be fixed before they turn into major problems requiring expensive repairs. If your tractor has been acting up, we’ve got some tips to help you troubleshoot common problems.
Electrical System
The battery in your engine is most likely the cause of any problems you have with your tractor’s electrical system. Check to see whether it’s fully charged when you face these issues. If your tractor has not been used for a while, the battery may have drained. Inspect the posts and the wire attachments for signs of wear or corrosion.
Test the Engine
Several things can go wrong when it comes to the tractor engine. There are lots of parts that require a closer inspection when you suspect something is amiss. If your machine is tough to start, performs poorly, and doesn’t seem to be fuel efficient, then your spark plugs may need to be replaced.
Dull Blades
Many tractor implements have spinning blades that help to get work done. If you frequently use your tractor for mowing, then you’ll need to sharpen the blades after every six months or so. Compact tractors may have easily removable single blades that can be sharpened by hand with a file. You don’t need them to be very sharp because a lot of the cutting work is done by the spinning force, but you do need to sharpen your blades so they don’t become dull.
